Random ramblings

Well here I go; this is a real random post, with just whatever hits me – so here it is…..

I spoke with a Scottish accent when I first started school, (parents were from Scotland). The older children used to ask me to tell stories, I thought I was a great story teller, until I realised they only asked me because I spoke ‘funny’

I’m the older of two girls, but husband is one of 11!

Planned with my best friend when were fourteen to go to the U.K. as soon as we could, (right down to what ship we would travel on!) and we kept to our plans heading overseas when we were 19.

I met my husband on the ship on the way; we went separate ways for a while but kept in contact and got together about a year later. The rest is history.

We came back to New Zealand and married a couple of months later. When we arrived back we had the grand sum of $7.00.

I’m a softie and cry at sad movies, buckets of tears at times.

One of my favourite foods (now) is sushi, I hate porridge and weetbix!

I was a bit of a rat bag at school and the nuns called my dad to school and told him to take me out because I was wasting their time. This was about six weeks before School Cert, but I showed them and passed. Left straight after and the first thing I did was burn all my school books and uniform. (Why didn’t I click then that continuing education was the best thing I could have done…instead of now!)

I got kicked out of the school choir (nuns again) I thought I was singing well, and one nun wandered up and down listening to us, when she got to me, I got the tap on the shoulder and shown the door!

I have never sung again!

My father’s cousin had a hit song (many years ago) Baker Street, it still gets played sometimes.

My first job was for a government department doing data entry work.

I had thought of becoming a nurse.

We had three children in 17 months! The second (and third) are twins. I didn’t know I was having two until the Doctor said @%*&!@ - there’s another one! I was a bit doped up and all I can remember thinking that there was another woman waiting to come into theatre - and then reality hit!!

We had a VW Combi when we were first married and used to strap our oldest daughter’s carry cot in the back. (wouldn’t get away with that now days)

Some things I love – times with husband (away from work pressure)times with family and friends, cuddles from our grand sons, the funny things kids come out with, curling up with a book, rain on the roof when I’m drifting off to sleep, us time at the beach.

We have visited the beach where we have finally built a bach for over twenty years.

When our children where growing up we used to have a camper van and so they have seen most of the North Island. We were always planning to take them down South but only made one trip down there

I read (lots) mainly fiction and always have a book lurking in the background.

Don’t really watch television – only the occasional program.

I love rugby – this is when I do watch television!

I seem to have collected a huge selection of cook books. Must have passed this onto to our son, he’s a chef and is always buying new cook books.

I wish I had the time and money to venture and travel, so much to see!

Two countries I would love to re-visit are Scotland and Ireland.

That’s it. And if you are still awake, my leg lasted at aqua last night and is a lot better. Starting to think maybe this is what you call old age!

Have a great week:)

I loved reading this and getting to know you a bit more!!

My goodness, that must have been quite a day to wake up and realise you had 2 babies instead of 1!!

I love the combi thing :-) My parents brought me home from the hospital in a carrycot too - it was the height of safety at the time, lol.

Thanks for the cool post!!

What a great post. There are a few random posts at the moment and I can't wait to get to all of them and just read. I cannot image what it would have been like to be told, at the moment of the birth, that there were two babies. It is doing my head in thinking about that. You are amazing!!

And don't worry that you didn't continue your education then. The path you took at the time has shaped you, and your family, and I am sure you would not change a thing. You are doing it now and that it fantastic and shows what a wonderful person you are today :D

Have a great day Anne x
