My day

Had to go to Wanganui today, got a puncture on the way home! Once years and years ago, Peter showed me how to change a tyre......... But I've never had to do it since! Please don't laugh - but I couldn't even find the bloody spare tyre!! How was I to know it was under the back of the vehicle. So here I am - miles from the nearest town, stuck on the side of a busy main highway with trucks whipping past, scaring the hell out of me, I thought I would get collected by one. I put on the emergency lights, phoned Peter, he was miles in the other direction - right in the middle of an electrical shutdown, with other tradesmen needing him there. Not much use to me!! I phoned directory and got a garage in a nearby town, they don't do call outs. I sort of hoped someone would take pity on me and stop - but no such luck! So I phoned back to Wanganui and phew they said they would send someone out. I had to wait about 30 minutes, but a really lovely man arrived with a smile. I told him I had learned to change a tyre years ago but forgot how, he told me not to worry, it happens all the time! So I'm not the only ditzy woman out there!!! Now where is the spare he said, Umm not sure, I had already worked out it was not in the back of the vehicle. In no time at all he had it changed and I was on my way. He asked if anyone had stopped to offer help and I had to say no. I joked maybe if I was younger they may have (but in all truth no-one would have known how old I was from the back!). His comment was that they discussed this at the garage before he left and the five in the workshop said that's life now - no-one stops nowdays. Guess I better have another tyre changing lesson in cases it happens again before I reach my old age!

Spoke to someone today - and my weight came up and how much I had lost. I explained I wasn't where I wanted to be yet, and my words were along the lines of "I will get there one day" got told this was not the most positive way of saying it - I should be saying, 'I'm losing weight. This is work in progress to being healthier and happy and I'm working on it every day". I liked that way of thinking, had been thinking of a more positive name to this blog for some time. A work in progress sounds a lot better than a battle to goal!

Peter will give me heaps tonight, I just know it. He had the check to tell me me to hitch up my skirt and attract a passerby, bit difficult when you are wearing track pants! Also the thought entered my head if the man hadn't turned up when he did, I would have been in dire straights in more ways than one, due to the water bottle I had been sipping at, and the absence of a toilet on the main highway!

Geez - I've never changed a tyre in my life either - always someone has stopped to help me - but you've made me think I should get my sh*t together and work out how to do it! Know exactly what you mean about the water - I go well at work cos I can just walk down the hall to the loo but not so good on weekends or when we're on holidays as you are never quite sure where you're going to find your next loo!!!

girls arent meant to get dirty and change tyres and stuff, they are just suppose to look gorgeous driving. You did the right thing! :) LOL Frightening experience though eh? and why is it these things always happen at the wrong time or place and when the weather is absolute shite?

Gosh that makes me cross - why didn't anyone stop?!?!?!
Your friend was right - we're all works in progress, in all sorts of ways.

I was shown when I was young - eons ago but have never had to do it. Thank goodness for the NRMA here who have changed numerous tyres for me. Believe me, you are not alone.

I'd be useless as "tits on a bull" if I had a flat tyre.

It's a sorry world we live in now days, most people have their own agendas
