Life can be a bit eventful.....
Not funny really but I had to smile to myself hearing Peter on the phone to the insurance company this morning. It sounded a nightmare and even the insurance employee said it was ugly!! Life can be a bit eventful.....
Peter doesn't normally do work for family, usually too busy and then of course it's hard to charge them. Plus he has a huge family!! But he got asked just to do a small job by his brother. When he went down to the house on Friday - what was originally a "small" job of installing a new oven all changed when he spoke to our sister in law. There were going to be new cupboards and so the switches / outlets were in wrong places and had to be moved. Then it turned out the phone line had to be moved as well. A really hot day and Peter ended up in the roof (which he hates in the heat ) drilling down an internal wall. Then ooooopsss!! The drill somehow shot of the twang and went through the wall!! Now it was only a small hole - BUT - it just happened to be on a wooden feature wall. No body really has these now and he can't buy wood panels to match. Well they don't make them any more. So he called in a builder - it looks like:
- the whole wall has to be replaced with gib
- the gas heater will have to be moved for this to happen - so a gas fitter will have to be hired
- the wood surround (can't think of the name) between the wall and ceiling will have to be replaced
- that wood surround is dated too and can't be matched up so the whole room will have to be done
- then the room will be finished with a new wall, heater back on and new surrond - but then....
- the wall will need wall paper - then...
- we won't be able to match it as a couple of years old
- so the wall paper on the other three walls won't match
- so the entire room will have to be done.
LOL (well you have to laugh - or else you will cry) he asked his SIL if she could move the picture on the wall along a little which will cover the hole
she shook her head
so he asked if he could put a new hot point there
she shook her head
We have a $500 excess!!
It gets worse!!!!! Then yesterday his brother suggested a substance that could possibly match and fill the hole in. So Peter bought some. They were examining the colour on the container, Peter held it up to the light
- he dropped it
- onto a tray of wine glasses
Phew - only one broke.
Peter said to the SIL - "go on and tell me that the glass is your most expensive one"
She shook her head again - but said the set behind were really good ones!
We don't think the product will work....!
And I'm not making any of this up!!!!
So far this week we have had the problem tenants at the beach house (who still haven't paid) and then this. RE: the tenants - well I used to be a credit controller in my old job, so I'm onto them. Every excuse thrown at me of course, internet down so can't do a banking, moved house so no land line.... no phone number.... blah blah - will give them a couple of days and ring again as I have two cell phone numbers for them.
Also the printer - it jammed this morning and there is no way I can get the the 'ripped' bit of paper out. So work is coming in but I can't print anything until Peter attacks the printer. Hmmmm maybe that attack word is the wrong one to use!!
Apart from that life is ticking along quite nicely!!! Feeling so onto it with food and exercise, drinking water, love the feeling of being in control. Really does make me feel better.
Izzy (the adopted dog) is a little beauty, so good! She is sitting outside the office, front gate open but she is not interested! She seems to have learnt her bounderies quickly. Toby and her have swapped toys, Izzy now is carting around a plastic string of sausages and Toby has her "baby" they are happy. Peter saw them have a tug of war with the string of sausages - Izzy won:-)

Holy hell! What a story - poor Peter. Have been reading you from bloglines the last couple of days so hadn't seen your new template - looks fantastic. Love Z xx
You certainly know how to have dramas! Poor Peter. Lovely to hear little stories about Izzy... I can't believe she's given up her baby!
Poor you, certainly enough problems of late. Of course you have to laugh, otherwise everything would seem so much worse. Do hope you get things resolved with out further complications. Wishing you smoother sailing ahead.
LOL oh my goodness!! Script writers couldn't have written it better!
As for the tenant thing, just keep ringing them, every day if you have to. The old case of squeaky wheel gets the oil. They'll get sick of your voice eventually and pay up (of course I'm sure you have a lovely voice tho! lol)
All I could think was "Holy Shit".... poor Anne & Peter!!!!!!
I really think you should start writing a book. It would be a best seller!!!! Thinking of you :)
Yes, that's quite a series of disasters. Alas! Hope things improve. Very funnily described, though!
Surely they would pay the excess since they were getting a favour done in the first place and you accept these sorts of things happen!!! They are, after all, getting a whole new room brand spanking new for nothing!!
Some people!!
Life is lovely isn't it??
Have to go along with that comment "If you don't laugh you would cry", surely nothing else can happen ehhhhh....
Sounds as thou Izzy has really settled in, thats great
