No more scales

It's funny how some days I read a blog and think - that's similar to what I was going to write! This morning I got up and as I do every day I jumped on the scales - nothing - the battery had died!! I did a bit of a panic initially as I like to know what what I weigh daily. I've tried to stop doing this but always go back to my old ways. Jo summed my feelings up a bit how much the scales influence some of us. Before I read her post I thought when the scales drew a blank- that it's time to stop this - enough of this daily weighing.

I know when I'm trying really hard sometimes the scales go up - then I start to think why bother!! Then on the days the scales happen to go down I get a bit over confident and I've realised that these are probably the days I get careless with tracking. It's a real vicious circle and today I decided those scales are going to stay minus the battery. They really do influence what I do and how I feel. Body weights fluctuate for all sorts of reasons and that's natural but I've let it bug me for too long. A bit of cold turkey here but I'll be weighing monthly and it's going to be either a huge surprise or shock when I see how I've done!

No Count - well it's really got me thinking. I've come to see a lot of the foods I tend to snack on would have to be counted as extra points on this program, also the cereals I prefer would as well and any extra bread. So I've come to realise that my problem is, too much of some foods, not enough fruit (some days none!), I love the Choc Crisp bars and similar ones and these would be overdoing the sugar points. On No Count the cereals and bread are quite limited which I found hard. On the plus side it is teaching you to eat when hungry, instead of out of habit. One habit I have is a choc crisp bar or cereal bar at 10.00am - am I hungry? No - not always. I did three days of No Count and the strange thing was at the end of the day I counted up what I ate and it was around 20 points on all three days!

So right now I'm going to attempt a combination of both plans - and I think it will work.
What I'm doing
I'm counting but:
- All snacks between meals will be fruit or veges (and only when I'm hungry)
- use the cereal bars as a once a week treat - rather than a daily one
- limit of four slices of wholegrain breads per day
- limit the sugary cereals, add All Bran to them
- eat when I'm hungry, not because it's 10.00am - noon etc
- track sugar points (I get a bit slap happy here)
- limit carb type veges (I can overdo these)
- water - today there are 3 x 800ml bottles in the fridge - tonight they will be empty
- and last but not least as a good part of my day is in front of a computer I've done a simple little spreadsheet to keep track of my points. A better idea for me than scraps of paper or my head.

My week is going both good and bad!
Good for food and exercise.
Monday - two aqua sessions as well as gym!
Tuesday - aqua
Wednesday - a long walk
Today - we were planning to go to Tai Chi - but have found the class is full - so the gym will get a visit
Friday - plan gym then aqua

Bad or stressful in other ways! Yesterday I was racing out to get my eyelashes tinted and planned a visit to aqua after wards - no wallet!! It was in my bag the night before at aqua, I don't think I lost it (it's huge) - rather it's been taken, I searched high and low just in case but no luck so instead of going to aqua spent the next hour on the phone cancelling cards etc. then headed back to the car just for one last look in case it fell out and noticed someone had hit the back of the car, dented it and smashed the back light!! Grrrr!!!

This morning I've off to the optician as I'm due a test and as my driver's licence was also in the wallet and was due for renewal - it's a good time to do that. Then MM said once my eyes are tested maybe then I'll find the wallet (and our garage remote that is still missing). He thinks he's funny! Oh by the way our house is usually reasonably tidy in case you are wondering who this woman is that loses large items such as wallets and garage remote openers.

Better go or I'll be late!!!

Bugger about losing your wallet (and the remote LOL). But a real GRRRRRRRRRR to the person that hit your car and dented it etc... did they leave their details?
Good luck on the trying the combination of both plans - I am sure you will find the right mixture that works just for you!

Good idea on rethinking the food and about the scales. I agree that I do that too - if the scales are down I get a bit confident with my food.

Good luck with your new plan. I reckon as we are all so different we need to experiment sometimes and find what suits. Hope your combination works for you.
Have a lovely weekend.

Hope it all worked out fine re your wallet.......not nice though & especially coming at the same time as the car:(
Just hope that you can have a lovely stress free weekend.
Think I will banish my scales too:) For what it's worth I have read that by having 2cups (3-4 servings) of yoghurt a day it helps re weight loss and also helps in lowering blood pressure. Something to do with a diet high in calcium suppresses calcitrol, a hormone that commands fat cells to burn less fat and to store more. I am giving this a go so will see what happens :)
Best of luck with your combination plan :)
Cheers,
Jenny
