Monday

Had a really enjoyable day yesterday in Wellington to see Helena before her op next week. Drove down with Chris & Janene, and of course Jorja who was an angelic little girl as it was a long day for her! Brunch/lunch then a wander around the Expo and then more coffees as we headed back to Sue's fabulous apartment, right in the centre of the city. I was wide awake at 5.30 way before the alarm was due to go of! I think I was scared I was going to sleep in, if I did Chris H would have gone without me! It was lovely catching up with everyone once again. Also a bonus visit with my sister on the way home. Last night Peter and I ended up sitting at the breakfast bar with a glass of wine each talking about our day, then we heard a car horn outside. Both our daughters had popped up with one son each for a visit. We didn't hear them knock at the door so they thought we weren't home, until Fynn decided he would try totting the horn. So while Jordyn and Fynn played we sat around and talked for a while. We were having paninis for dinner and Rachel decided they looked pretty good so she wanted me to do an extra one for her to take home. Good old mum!

There is a local man who does restaurant reviews in the newspaper. He visited the local RSA club and gave them a really good review. (Surprise, surprise I thought as he usually aims for the trendier places in town.) Saturday night Peter suggested we go down and try it. I had made up my mind before even getting there I was going to have steak and salad, dressing on the side - and no chips!! Why? Because if they are on my plate, I eat them and if they aren't there I don't even think about them! Peter thought it was funny I knew what I was having before even seeing the menu. He told me to ask for piles of chips and piles of dressing and then the opposite may happen. It had become a bit of a joke with us on holiday that no matter how many times I said no chips please, I still got them! So I tried once more on Saturday.....

Me: Could I have steak, but no chips please, and the dressing on the side.
Them: What kind of dressing do you want?
Me: If you can just put any dressing you use on the side rather than on the salad.
Them: We don't put dressing on the salad, it's over there and you put your own on.
Me: Great, thank you.
Them: Do you want extra salad seeing you aren't having chips?
Me: That would be great - thanks!

So the meals came out - the first thing I saw was the massive pile of chips and the piddly little bit of salad on my plate. So I was strong, or a bitch and said very nicely....
Me: Sorry but I asked for no chips and extra salad.
Waitress: Do you want us to fix it?
Me: Yes please - that would be great.
Then the revamped meal appeared in a minute or two - delicious steak, no chips, piles of salad - SMOTHERED IN DRESSING!!!

I gave up and ate it! Have found my taste buds have changed and I only like a dash of dressing, this salad was quite soggy. Maybe it was pay back time for sending the meal back! Some taste buds DON'T change though - I still love chips! didn't have any thought and didn't miss them. We didn't stay long after the meal, the dance floor quickly filled up - but some of the songs I swear they played at our wedding, over 30 years ago.

A sneaky preview on the scales today showed the same weight I was on Thursday last week, so I'm not expecting a loss this week. I know it isn't because I have tried, because I have! Rather than bitch and moan I'm keeping foccused, I'm getting to realise persistance will pay of eventually.
Friday: 10,310 steps
Saturday: forgot to put pedometer back on when I got changed.
Sunday: 12,435 steps

Good on you for sending the meal back, too many of us dont, but bugger about the salad when you got it back. Why don't people listen when you place your order??

I am like you. If chips are there I eat them so I try not to get them either.

The catch up sounded like a lot of fun. I think that is the best best thing to come out of blogging (besides the actual health benefits).. Glad you had a great time :)

I find that in SO MANY restaurants, they just DON'T LISTEN when you place an order that is not 'the standard'....frustrating.

I love that they smothered your salad in dressing when they would have gone and got it for you (seeing you were suppose to get it yourself) I can just imagine what they were thinking when they put it on...........hahahahaha

Wonderful seeing you again on the weekend, bring on the next expo (or op) so we have another excuse to catch up.
