Excuses and reminders

I sat here thinking this morning about all the reasons why I couldn't get to the gym. Lots of excuses such as:

Sore calf muscles (yep - again)
Too much office work to do
Feeling tired
Couldn't be bothered
Twice a week is probably enough...

BUT

I went!

The calf muscle problem has reared it's ugly head again, not so much the calves but below so achilles pain. I've been mostly good at wearing the orthotics (but probably could be better, actually quite a lot better). Not so good at keeping up the exercises the physio gave me, problem being when my legs don't hurt - I forget! The last couple of days I can feel tingling, sort of spasms and general aches and pain in this area. I get scared in case it means I do have problems with the achilles. So worried in fact, that this was one reason I was reluctant to go to the gym. I went along and made the decision no exercycle. Then I thought the gym instructors are there to help so why not ask. Sort of have a bit of a language barrier with the one instructor that was there. He asked me what had I done to my muscles - nothing this just happens. I had explained all this to him when they set up my program. The same program that my physio thinks wouldn't be helping the muscles improve. Simply I wanted to know if going on the exercycle could hurt them further. The instructor asked if I wanted to use the Vibe machine. I had already asked the physio about them and she didn't want me to use it. I didn't really get the answer about the exercycle, well to be truthful I didn't but I was shown another piece of equipment for calf raises which is exactly the type of exercise the physio wanted me to do (no steps at home to attempt this) Sort of had to wonder why I wasn't given this to do right at the start, especially as I had stressed that I needed work on my calves. Also got shown a deeper stretch to help the lower leg. So my session today instead of the exercycle I spent extra time on the water grinder:( I did all the weights/equipment as per usual and then had the new piece of equipment added to the program. I'm worried as the pain is one reason why I stopped the gym last time. I want to keep going - I am going to keep going, just have to be careful and not overdo it. If it gets worse, or doesn't improve soon I will phone the physio.

Reminder to me:
To make sure I wear my gym shoes as often as I can for support.
No bare feet and no slippers around home!
Do the exercises - religiously!
Be careful

In the meantime my daughter can keep my exercycle at her house, she will be pleased.

I had aqua after the gym, I took it a little easier as I could still feel my legs tingling every now and then. Was good though - although getting a little cool in the outdoor pool.

Also good luck to Rachel who is of to try aqua tonight!

Bet the instructor you saw was Tony, I found him next to useless!!! Good on you for persevering with the gym though.

G'day Anne. Thanks for visiting my blog again.Remembering to do the exercises each day is very difficult. Especially when pain is involved.I have a chronic back problem & now go to my physio each 4 weeks for adjustments & encouragement.
Don't loose heart and keep going.
Best wishes and I will drop in to see how you are going. cj xx
